Abstract
A liquid fuel, having little tendency to form deposits on the interior surfaces of internal combustion engines, comprises a blend of hydrocarbons boiling in the gasoline boiling range, the relative proportions of the hydrocarbons being determined by the following blending formula: D = 1/2 [D1 + aDa + /D1 - aDa/] <0.70 wherein D1 = p(0.20 + 0.00038Tp) + n(0.14 + 0.0028Tn) + o(0.30 + 0.0014To) + c(0.30 + 0.0057Tc) (1 + 4.7 [1 - c] [p + n]), a = volume fraction of aromatic hydrocarbons, p = volume fraction of paraffin hydrocarbons, n = volume fraction of naphthene hydrocarbons, o = volume fraction of acyclic olefine hydrocarbons, c = volume fraction of cyclic olefine hydrocarbons, Da = 0.0096 (Ta - 120), and T with the various subscrips = the mid-boiling point in degrees Fahrenheit of the various types of hydrocarbon components. The fuel may be formed from straight-run, cracked and reformed gasolines and may also contain tetraethyl lead. In an example, a liquid fuel is prepared by blending according to the formula a straight-run naphtha, a reformed naphtha and a catalytically cracked stock.
