Abstract
398,112. Pitch and tar. SOC. POUR L'EXPLOITATION DES PROC•D•S ABDER-HALDEN, 26, Rue de la Baume, Paris. March 11, 1933, No. 7482. Convention date, March 17, 1932. [Class 55 (ii).] In the continuous treatment of tar with oxygen the tar is preliminarily heated, for example to 230-250‹C., so that the oxidation is effected spontaneously without supplying extraneous heat. The substance to be treated, after preliminary heating, flows through a tube 3 together with oxygen through a tube 2 into a retort 1, the resulting product issuing from a tube 4. The vapours from the retort flow through a fireclay mass 6 and are cooled by a condenser 7, both of which are contained in a superincumbent chamber 5. The condensate returns by gravity to the retort.
