Abstract
397,685. Railway wheels. BUDD MANUFACTURING CO., E. G., 2500, Hunting Park Avenue, Philadelphia, U.S.A. -(Assignees of Budd, E. G. ; 2500, Hunting Park Avenue, Philadelphia, U.S.A.) Sept. 30, 1932, No. 27190. Convention date, Sept. 30, 1931. [Classes 144 (i) and 144 (ii).] A pneumatic tyre for use on railway wheels is formed of flat cross section with the radial depth R of the air-space less than the normal clearance C between the guide-flange 25 and the bolts &c. 29 or other track projections in the plane of the flange. In the form shown, the tyre is constructed in cross section with a flat base and tread and semi-circular side-walls 12, 22. To prevent distension of the tread, it may be reinforced by circumferential bands or windings of wire or tape. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 describes also pneumatic tyres of this form for use on road vehicles. Fig. 3 (Cancelled) shows a typical example, a rubber pad 24 being provided on the inner tread wall to limit the wheel-drop on tyre-deflation. This subjectmatter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
