Abstract

405,790. Wheel tyres. STEVENS, A. H., 5, Quality Court, Chancery Lane, London.- (Chrysler Corporation ; 341, Massachusetts Avenue, Highland Park, Michigan, U.S.A.) Jan. 12, 1933, No. 1097. [Class 144 (ii).] A pneumatic tyre, which may be of the tubeless type, has its base portion permanently vulcanized to a brass-plated metal rim. The tyrebase may be divided circumferentially, in which case each edge is vulcanized to a separate rim-element ; or the tyre may be closed in transverse section and vulcanized to a one-piece rim which may be an integral part of, or may be detachably secured to, the wheel. In the form shown in Fig. 2, the metal rim 4 is recessed into the base of a singletube tyre 11 and is detachably bolted to a flange. 7 on the wheel-rim 5, the inflating-valve 12 being fitted through one of the flanges of the rim 4. Fig. 3 shows a modification in which a single-tube tyre 11 is formed with flaps 15, 16 to provide a base-portion of channel-section which is vulcanized to the wheel-rim 17. Fig. 6 shows a further modification in which the divided base of a tyre-cover 102, fitted with a separate air-tube 113, is vulcanized to metal rings 104 which are secured by bolts 108 to the wheel-flange 107. For use as a spare tyrecarrying rim, a second set of bolts may be used for independently connecting the rings 104. The rings 104 may be completely embedded in the base-portions of the cover to provide an airtight joint and thereby dispense with the separate air-tube.
