Abstract

Air tubes and chambers; tread bands; tyre attachments to rims.-A pneumatic tyre for aeroplane or other vehicle wheels is fitted with an auxiliary cover or covers to receive one or more supplementary air tubes so as to give a wider ground contact, relatively low inflation pressures being used in the auxiliary tube or tubes. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 1, the auxiliary cover 1, which receives the supplementary air tubes 16, is shaped to fit the tread, of the ordinary cover 14 and is formed with wired and eyeleted edges to receive attachment bolts 6. These bolts also form seats for the beads of the main cover when using a raised-centre rim of the kind shown. Inflation valves 17 for the tubes 16 are fitted outside the rim. In the modification shown in Fig. 2, bolts 27 and threaded ferrules 28 are used for connecting the tread portions of the covers. Similar devices 25, 31 and washers or rings 32 are used for connecting the edges of the covers. When the parts 32 are formed as flanges, they may be extended, as indicated lay the dotted lines 33, to support the side walls of the auxiliary cover.
