Abstract
397,442. Weft feeler arrangements for looms. STEHLI, R. H., 26, Claridenstrasse, Zurich, Switzerland. May 17, 1933, No. 14303. [Class 142 (iii).] I shuttle spindles provided with means for breaking the weft when the latter is substantially exhausted, the feeler comprises a finger 5a, Fig. 4, pivoted in a recess in the shuttle spindle and adapted to pass, on weft exhaustion, through a slot 7 in the cop tube to cause the weft to break. The feeler turns due to the effect of the impact on the shuttle during picking or while being checked on entering the shuttle box. In a modification, the feeler 14, Fig. 6, has an extension 17 adapted to move through the slot 7 in the cop tube when the weft is sufficiently exhausted. In this form, a ball 19 is adapted to roll in a transverse recess in the shuttle peg 2 due to the action of the lay, so that the end 17 of the feeler is only free to cause breakage of the weft when the lay is moving rearwardly. When the weft is broken, the centre weft-fork motion stops the loom, and a fresh weft can be joined to the incomplete weft in the shed.
