Abstract

Beat-up motions; lays.-The beat-up is effected by one or more pairs of electromagnets, the cores r, r', Fig. 2, of each pair being adjustably connected by a rod l and set-screw s, the rod l carrying between fixed collars q, a sleeve m, Figs. 2 and 2a having side eyes n through which slide portions o of the slay p, o. Picking motions; checking shuttles and pickers; pickers.-A picker w, Fig. 3, of soft iron mounted on balls or rollers and provided with a leather or other resilient end x is advanced to pick the shuttle y by means of the electromagnet v<1>, and retracted by the electromagnet v. The shuttle is checked by means of a third magnet v<11>. In some cases, the picker and its retracting magnet are dispensed with. In a change-box loom, each box has a checking magnet but there is only one picking magnet at each end of the loom.
