[Class 142 (iii).] Shuttle-changing mechanism.-In looms of the pick-and-pick type in which one shuttle is received in an upper box at one side of the loom and the other shuttle in the upper box at the other side of the loom, a separate shuttle magazine is provided at each side of the loom for supplying a fresh shuttle in either of the upper boxes, the replenishment being controlled by weft-detecting mechanism associated with the lower shuttle box at the opposite side of the loom. At each end of the lav there is provided a set of pattern-controlled drop-boxes comprising regular upper boxes 12, 13, Fig. 4, regular lower boxes 14, 15, and auxiliary boxes 16, 17. In the normal running position shown in Fig. 4, the shuttle G has just been received in the box 13 from the raised box 14. In that position, the weft feeler 31 indicates for the shuttle R in the box 15. If the weft in that shuttle is substantially exhausted, the shuttle boxes at the left of the loom are raised to bring the auxiliary box 16, Fig. 5, into position to receive the shuttle R from the box 15, while the upper box 12 is raised sufficiently to cause the magazine for the " R " shuttle to deposit a shuttle R<1> in the compartment 12. Where the drop-boxes to the left of the lay fall to normal position, the shuttle in the box 16 is no longer supported by the binder, and is discharged.
