Abstract

798,966. Weft stop motion for smallware looms. SMITH, H. G. Aug. 14, 1956 [Aug. 31, 1955], No. 24934/55. Class 142(2) In a multi-tier smallware loom each shuttle 1, Fig. 2, has a metal contact 5 on the weft tensioning arm 4 which when the weft runs off sufficiently to uncover the metal pirn 2, completes a circuit to contact strips 3, 3x on the back of the shuttle and thence through spring-loaded balls 9 in the shuttle box 6 to an electromagnet M, Fig. 4, mounted on the starting handle 11. The magnet attracts an armature 13, bringing its nose 13x into the path of a striker 14 on the batten, whereby the starting handle is knocked out of its retaining notch to stop the loom.
