756,653. Weft stop motions. SULZER FRERES SOC. ANON. Sept. 29, 1954, No. 28144/54. Class 142 (2). In a gripper shuttle loom in which the shuttle race comprises numerous plates 34 which are withdrawn from the shed before beat up, one of the plates near the end of the shed from which the shuttle emerges is replaced by a fixed jaw 65 and a pivoted feeler jaw 68. As the shuttle race is being withdrawn from the shed, the weft passes through a gap 35 in the plates and, in doing so, turns the feeler jaw 68, thereby swinging its foot 73 into register with a channel 76 in a block 53; during beat up, the block 53 normally turns anti-clockwise as shown, but if the weft thread has not acted on the feeler jaw, such a movement is prevented by the foot 73 remaining at rest on the top edge 78 of the block, whereby the loom is stopped.
