[Class 39 (i).] A cathode- or R÷ntgen-ray tube has an anode A in the form of an apertured disc, and a screen electrode S between the anode and cathode K for concentrating the beam and consisting of a flat or curved plate or wire mesh with a single opening for the penetration of the anode field to the cathode, the distance a between the cathode and the screen being not more than half the diameter b of its opening. The screen may have an adjustable negative-bias. The anode and screen may both extend almost to the container as shown, or the anode may be of much smaller size than the screen. Concentration mav be assisted by a gas filling.
