394,549. Piston compressors and exhausters. FONDERIES DEBERNY ET PEIGNOT, 18, Rue Ferrus, Paris. Oct. 25, 1932, No. 29872. Convention date, May 3. [Class 8 (i).] In connection with pneumatic sheet feeding and delivery devices for platen presses of the kind in which the sheets are fed to the platen by suction nozzles on a feed arm 27 and delivered in a similar manner by a separate arm 23, and in which separation of the sheets is assisted by blasts of air produced by the same pump which exhausts the air in the feed arms, the air pressure in the devices is controlled by a double-acting oscillating pump P, Figs. 1 and 8, and a slide valve C, Figs. 3 and 8, is used for controlling the connection between the delivery and feed arms and the pump and also with the atmosphere. The pump 1, which is pivoted about a spindle engaging a housing 6a in a lug 6, is formed with screwed heads 4, 5 each of which can be formed from a single block by machining. Air is exhausted through valves 7 on each stroke of the piston 2, and compressed air passes through valves 10 controlled by springs 8a which are of such strength that the valves 10 open only when the pressure is of a given considerable amount. Plates 11 limit the movements of the piston 2 and of the valves 7, and the valves 10 are similarly controlled. The valves 7 are connected to an exhaust chamber which is fitted with a controlling valve and with a detachable filter. The connection between this chamber and the feed and delivery arms 27, 23, Fig. 8, is controlled by the slide valve 16, Fig. 3, which is reciprocated in an outer chamber 15. A jacket 17 fitted with communication ports is arranged between the parts 15, 16 and is normally held stationary by a friction shoe 18, but is moved in opposite directions alternately by abutting against the valve 16. In the position shown in Fig. 3 the exhaust chamber is connected to the suction nozzle on the feed arm 27 via ports 15a, 17c, 16b, 17d, 15c, and the other connections are closed. As the valve 16 descends the feed arm nozzle connects to the atmosphere via ports 17a, 16a, 17d, 15c, and the delivery nozzles are then connected to the exhaust chamber. Finally, as the valve 16 lowers the jacket 17 the delivery nozzles connect to the atmosphere. On the ascent of the valve 16 the parts are returned to the position shown in Fig. 3 and are ready for a further cycle.
