Abstract
731,601. Compressed air engines; valve gear. YOUD, S. N. Feb. 5, 1953 [Feb. 6, 1952], No. 3184/52. Classes 122 (2) and 122 (3). [Also in Group XXIII] A fluid-pressure motor, particularly suitable for operating a sanding device, comprises two coaxial cylinders. 2 separated by a common cylinder head 5, a pair of rigidly connected pistons 3 in the respective cylinders, and a distributing valve mechanism comprising a plate valve 15 co-operating with a surface on the cylinder head 5 and oscillated about a pivot 16 by a resilient member connected to both the valve and a fulcrum 22 movable with the pistons so that when the resilient member passes its dead centre position the valve is snapped over from one limiting position to the other and a recess 17 in the valve alternately connects a port 18 communicating with a source of pressure fluid with one of two ports 20 leading to the cylinders and opens the other port 20 to atmosphere. Arms 6 extending from each piston are formed integrally with a plate 7 carrying the fulcrum 22 to which is pivoted a member 24 telescoped over a second member 25 pivotally connected to the valve 15; the two members 24, 25 being urged apart by a coil-spring 21. Compressed air controlled by a thumb trigger 27 is supplied to the port 18 via a pipe 19.
