Abstract

637,808. Vices. EVERED & CO., Ltd., and FOULKES, J. T. April 5, 1947, No. 9219. [Class 61 (ii)] In a fluid-operated vice, the piston and cylinder unit 19, located within a base 10 and beneath a mounting block 11a for the movable jaw, imparts a straight line thrust to the movable jaw 13b by means of links 22 and a lever 24. An operating handle 28 for a valve mechanism 27 may be manipulated to allow pressure fluid to pass into the cylinder 19 or to exhaust therefrom so that the movable jaw 13b closes or opens. When the jaw opens a jet of compressed air is directed from tube 29 between the jaws 13a, 13b to effect pneumatic ejection of a work-piece. The jaw 13b is adjustable by a screwed rod 16 and can be firmly clamped by screws 15. The movable jaw may be opened by a spring in the cylinder 19 or by fluid pressure, and both jaws may be movable by fluid pressure.
