Abstract

397,581. Compressed-air engines for conveyers. KLERNER, H., 164, Schalkerstrasse, Gelsenkirchen, Germany. March 18, 1932. No. 8176. Convention date, March 18, 1931. [Class 122 (ii).] Distribution in a jigging-conveyer motor is controlled by a fluid-actuated main valve 4 in which is housed a fluid- andtappetactuated stem 5 which extends through the valve. The large end of the stem 5 is permanently under pressure. Between the large end 5 and the small end 6 is an abutment which engages the main valve to hold it to the right. The end 5 passes through a valve chamber cover 27 held in position by a spring 25. The main valve is shown stepped ; the forward end controls a port 9 with a branch 9a leading to a small annular area 9b. When the valve is moved to the left, fluid is supplied to the cylinder and moves the piston 2 to the right. The plunger 5 moves to the right until it engages the main valve. When the piston passes port 18, fluid passes to the left of the valve and moves the valve and the stem to the right. Passage 9 is closed and passage 12 opened to exhaust. The power piston 2 is moved to the left by the conveyer. The piston strikes the stem 5, 6, releases the valve, and the pressure fluid supplied by the duct 9b together with compression fluid in the cylinder throw the valve to the left. In a modification the duct 9b is dispensed with. In the construction shown in Fig. 5, the main valve is of hollow cylindrical form and the main cylinder has exhaust ports 31, 32. When the piston passes the port 31, the pressure of fluid on the left-hand side of the valve supplied through passage 16, the fall of pressure on the right-hand side of the valve, and the pressure on the stem, throw the valve to the right. A modification for double-acting motors wherein the plunger 5 controls the admission to the right-hand side of the piston and the main valve controls the exhaust, is described. A pin 28 retains the stem in the valve when the fluid-pressure is cut off.
