Abstract
394,018. Dropping torpedoes and the like from aircraft. BLACKBURN AEROPLANE & MOTOR CO., Ltd., BUMPUS, F. A., and ANDREWS, H. J., Seaplane Base, Brough, near Hull. May 30, 1930, No. 16751. [Class 9 (ii).] A frame or spreader F with front and rear crutches D, B and slings E for carrying and dropping torpedoes or the like on and from aircraft is attached to the aircraft in such a way that it can be raised or lowered; for example, the frame is hinged at the rear at B<1>, the front crutch is guided up and down by members D<2>, D<4> on the aircraft, and the middle part of the frame is connected to the piston rod G2 of a jack G containing oil controlled through a byepass and suitable valves by a lever G<1>. The torpedo is normally carried in the raised position for minimum drag ; and for launching, the frame is swung down before the dropping device H is operated.
