Abstract

771,726. Catapult launching of aircraft. BLACKBURN & GENERAL AIRCRAFT, Ltd., and CRAWSHAW, A. H. July 22, 1955, No. 21310/55. Class 4. To avoid the need for a tail wheel on aircraft having a nose-wheel type of undercarriage, said tail wheel being used only during catapult launching of the aircraft, the bridle which connects the aircraft hooks 8, 9 to the catapult hook 10 comprises two straps 6, 7 of length such that the resultant pull during launching passes through the aircraft at a position aft of the centre of gravity position C.G. whereby the aircraft is held on its main wheels only with the wings at a desired adequate angle of attack.
