A container capable of at least partial insertion into an opening in the under surface of an aircraft fuselage so as to close the opening, includes ground wheels, jacking means for raising the container relatively to the wheels towards its position in the fuselage, and means for retaining the container in that position during flight. In Fig. 1, the container 2 is shown ready to be wheeled and jacked into position, after which the fuselage is faired off by a light shell 6. The container may contain recording instruments, supplies, or loaded guns, gun ports being shown at 30, Fig. 2. Two shafts 12, 13 extend through the container, and support a bracket 14 on each side. A lever 21 is pivoted on shaft 12, and journals a wheel 11 on a stub shaft 20. A ring 24 surrounding this shaft is rotatably secured to a threaded rod 23 which passes through a threaded collar 18 on bracket 14, and terminating in a brace fitting 25, so that rotation of the brace raises or lowers the container on its wheels. In the retained position, a spigot 7 on the container is engaged with the fuselage and a frame 8 pivoted to the aircraft structure 9, is clipped at 10 to the container. The brackets 14, levers 21, and wheels may then be removed from the shafts 12, 13, and the shafts withdrawn from the container. Retractable doors fair in the fuselage when the container is not carried.
