Abstract

393,346. Belt, chain, &c. gearing. SOUTHERN, J. H., 41, Newcomen Terrace, Redcar, Yorkshire. Dec. 31, 1931, No. 36091. [Class 80 (i).] An intermittent drive is imparted to a wheel b from a constantly-rotating wheel b<1> by an endless chain, cable, belt, or the like c, the lengths of the tight and slack sides of which are cyclically varied by means of wheels e,. e<1> which engage the opposite runs of the chain &c. and which are mounted on a transverse sliding frame h which is caused to reciprocate by a lever i operated by complementary cams n, o. The chain &c. also engages fixed jockey wheels p, p<1>, q and a counterweighted jockey wheel q<1>. The cams are so designed that the drive is taken up gradually after being arrested.
