Abstract

416,575. Escalators. EVANS, W. E., 27, Chancery Lane, London.-(Flohr Akt.-Ges., C. ; 35, Chausseestrasse, Berlin.) Feb. 15, 1933, No. 4699. [Class 78 (i).] A framework for an escalator, designed to avoid distortion and jamming, consists of longitudinal carriers, 6, 7 of channel or like section arranged at each side of the escalator, and auxiliary frames 8 supported by the carriers at intervals and extending between them. The rails 4, 5 for the step rollers are supported by the frames 8, or they may be supported by the flanges of the carriers if the frames are secured outside the carriers. Preferably, each carrier is made in at least three sections, the end sections 6<a> being of standard size and form and being secured to end fixtures and to supports such as 9, and the intermediate section 6b being designed to suit the size of escalator to be erected and being secured to the end sections as by links 10, 11. The steps 1 are carried by endless chains 2, 3 driven by a motor and gearing 14. The gear case 13 is supported on the driving-sprocket spindle, which has bearings in the longitudinal carriers. The electric switch &c., gear 17 is arranged behind the return roller 18 of the hand-rail 19, which may be driven from the lower chain sprockets 2, 1. Preferably, the frames 8 are covered by walls of reinforced gypsum, or the like, extending up to the hand-rail.
