437,238. Chain gearing. WESTING- HOUSE ELECTRIC & MANUFACTURING CO., East Pittsburg, U.S.A.-(Assignees of Dunlop, J. ; 1517, South Crescent Avenue, Park Ridge, Illinois, U.S.A.) March 22, 1935, No. 9030. Convention date, April 12, 1934. [Class 80 (i)] [See also Group XXX] In chain gearing, more especially for moving stairways and elevators, the point of engagement of the chain 19 with the sprocket 10 is determined by a guide shoe 42 supported by the framework and extending under and engaging the chain itself only during that portion of its travel immediately preceding and up to the point of engagement. In the form shown, the slotted guide shoes 42 are adjustably secured by bolts 47 to a fixed bracket 46 so as to embrace the sprocket teeth. The shoes 42 have rollers 57 engaging a projecting rim 55 on each face of the sprocket. Slightly curved or inclined surfaces 50, 51 are provided at the edges of the shoe to ease the spoolshaped chain rollers 22 into engagement with the straight surfaces 50a, 51<a>. An additional guide bar 70 may be provided.
