Abstract
388,744. Escalators. HALL, Ltd., J. & E., 10, St. Swithin's Lane, London.- (Flohr Akt.-Ges., C.; 35, Chausseestrasse, Berlin.) Aug. 26,1931, No. 24054. [Class 78 (i).] The supporting rollers 4 of an escalator step are mounted upon sleeves 6 which are secured to the brackets 1 and which serve for the reception of the chain spindles 8. These spindles extend beyond the outer ends of the sleeves to carry the bearing bushes 9a of the endless driving chains 9, and may be stepped or reduced to different diameters in order not to make contact along the whole length of the sleeves. The construction may be strengthened by ribs 7 which are welded to the brackets and sleeves. The rollers may be made of indiarubber, or provided with treads of that material. Friction is reduced by providing bushes 4a of compressed graphite. The tread plate 3 of the step may be formed of metal strips having their outer edges 13 turned up which are connected by welding &c., to form a rectangular frame, Fig. 4. The riser 12 either is formed integral with the plate 3, or is secured by welding, riveting, &c. to the vertical part of the upturned front face of the plate.
