Abstract

197,744. Hendry, J., and Bickford & Sons, Ltd., A. M. Feb. 21, 1922. Moving stairways, platforms, and the like.-A combined conveyer and elevator of the moving stairway type comprises a series of platforms 15 each of which is pivotally connected at one end by a member 18 to the axle of a roller 20 of an endless chain 21 and at the other end is supported by a pair of wheels 22. On the upward run the rollers 20 run on a central rail 25 and the wheels 22 on side rails 26, flanges 27 and guard rails 36 being provided to keep the rollers and wheels, respectively on the rails. The wheels 22 are slipped on to the axles 23 and if displaced so as to run on the rail 36 are returned to normal position by inclined openings 37, Fig. 8, in the rails 36. On the downward run, the rail 25 is dispensed with. The front and rear edge 17 of each platform may be bevelled and each platform may have a covering 16 of rubber fabric.
