Abstract

768,304. Escalators. OTIS ELEVATOR CO. March 8, 1955 [March 22, 1954], No. 6762/55. Class 78 (1). In an escalator in which each step 9 has a curved riser and a tread provided with cleats 22, 16 respectively and in which the end of the tread of the following step facing the riser is provided with recesses 32 to receive the upwardly-extending cleats, a riser cleat 22 is provided only for the alternate cleats of the tread and is aligned therewith. The cleats 22 are wider than the cleats 16. Each step 9 is provided with a pair of spacing rollers 50, Fig. 6, in the form of castors which run on the lower part 51 of the balustrading. Each castor comprises a wheel 52 of fairly hard rubber which is rotatably mounted in a stock 53 pivotally mounted on a spindle 54. The spindle is screwed into an aperture in the yoke 13. The stock is weighted at 56 to counterbalance the wheel 52. The distance apart of the parts 51 can be adjusted.
