Abstract

The retractable ladder can be fixed in two positions, and consists of parallel girders forming the strings which are hinged on a horizontal axle (8) to the floor (2). There are two sets of steps (9, 10) and a balustrade (11). An extension of the ladder consists of strings (12) on which are rigidly fixed steps (10). The two strings (12, 13) slide inside the girders (6) by means of travelling wheels (14). The balustrade (11) consists of two rails (15) and two underneath rails (16) fixed on the telescopic extension of the staircase. A locking device (20) enables the stairs to be kept in a horizontal position.
