Abstract
415,786. Endless - track vehicles. GARRETT ENGINEERING WORKS, Ltd., R., Leiston, Suffolk, FAY, S. E., Hµremai, Chipstead, Surrey, and SMITH, C. St. V., Fourways, Haylings Road, Leiston, Suffolk. March 3, 1933, No. 6491. [Class 79 (i).] The load-carrying wheels or rollers w<1>, w<2> are arranged in tandem pairs mounted in beams a, each beam rocking about a spring- mounted axle b on the main frame and being capable also of bodily vertical movement relatively to the axle. In the construction shown, each beam a has the rollers mounted on spindles e at its ends, and is formed with a central vertical slot s sliding over a bush c<1> on the axle b which extends right across the vehicle. Bearing bosses c are mounted on the axle on each side of the beam and have flanges c<2> sliding vertically against the faces of the beam. Laminated springs d are secured to the bosses c and their ends are connected to the roller spindles e by adjustable shackles d<3>. In a modification, the bearing bosses c are connected to the beams a by a number of vertical coil springs arranged in pockets in the bosses and bearing against horizontal flanges on the beams, so that a bodily upward movement of the beams compresses the springs.
