Abstract

582,881. Staircases. WRIGHTWAYS, Ltd., HAYBITTEL, L. M., and HALLAS, R. March 8, 1945, No. 5769. [Class 20 (iv)] [Also in Group XXXIII] A staircase comprises two channel-shaped inclined runners B made of light alloy to which are secured longitudinal members E in the form of sheets or skins also of light alloy. Stays C, inclined forwardly about 10', are also secured to the runners and side members E. Sheets or skins A of light alloy bent to form the steps are secured to the stays C and side members E and to horizontal stays D which are also secured to the side members E. Intermediate triangular stays engaging in the angle between the risers and treads may also be secured under the steps. The treads and risers may be covered with carpet, rubber or other material and the angle between the rear of each tread and the bottom of each riser completed by a V-shaped strip of moulded rubber. Balustrading may be secured to either or both of the runners. The staircase may be used for ships or passenger-carrying aircraft.
