Abstract

868,502. Moving stairways. WESTING- HOUSE ELECTRIC CORPORATION. Sept. 9, 1958 [Sept. 13, 1957], No. 28867/58. Class 78 (1). In a moving stairway, the riser face of a step is provided with cleats which mesh with grooves provided on the front of the following step. Thus, the step 1 is provided on its tread with cleats 29 and on its riser with cleats 37, the latter meshing with the grooves of comb fingers 45 formed as a unit 48 which is mounted resiliently on the front of the next step, 1 by rubber-mounted screws 53. The unit 48 may be of nylon. Additionally the two cleats 29 nearest to the two side guards 59 may be made of rubber and detachable. A step may be made of two parts bolted together, and be furnished with resiliently-mounted wheels. Specifications 491,440 and 549,616 are referred to.
