Abstract
392,574. Steam boilers heated by waste gases. ARMSTRONG, WHITWORTH, & CO. (ENGINEERS), Ltd., SIR W. G. and MATTHEWS, T. H., Scotswood Works, Newcastle-on-Tyne. Nov. 14, 1931, No. 31605. [Classes 64 (i) and 123 (ii).] The feed supply to a boiler 6 heated by the waste gases from a Diesel or like engine 13 is preheated in a heater 5 inserted in the pipe 12 conducting the waste gases to the boiler. The feedwater is heated in low temperature heaters 1 in the boiler smoke-box or uptake before passing to the heater 5 and is then led into the feed tank 8. The exhaust from several sets of engines may be conducted into the pipe 12 in front of the heater under the control of valves 10, 11. The feedwater may also be heated in the exhaust pipe jackets either before or after passing through the heater 5. Specification 392,219 is referred to.
