Abstract

392,453. Charge-preparing. ROCHEFORT, F., 20, Rue St. Lambert, Paris. Nov. 7, 1932, No. 31369. Convention date, Nov. 7, 1931. [Classes 7 (ii) and 7 (iii).] A rich mixture is formed by adding continuously liquid or gaseous fuel to weak mixture which is moved by a rotary or other pump l in a duct leading from a pipe h common to all the cylinders. The pump delivers through separate pipes to inlets i on the composite admission valves for the cylinders. Each cylinder is filled with pure air ; at the commencement of the compression stroke the composite valve is moved a small amount and the rich mixture enters the air in the cylinder from the inlet i through passage i<1>, annulus i2, channels in a dished plate k<1>, passages c<4> in flutings on the valve, Venturi or straight ducts d in a piston c<1> and the poppet valve e. Towards the end of the compression stroke the composite valve is moved a further amount ; the piston c<1> now opens a passage c<7>; some mixture is now returned from the cylinder past valve e, piston c<1> through the passages c<4> and a connection g to the common pipe h. Fresh fuel is fed to the circulating gas in the pipe h<1> leading to the pump l either by a Venturi o<1> or a jet supplied by an engine-driven feed pump. To facilitate starting an electric heater r is used surrounding the pipe leading to the pump l. The pipe h is surrounded by a hotair jacket p. Specification 312,679, [Class 7 (ii), Internal-combustion engines, Arrangement &c. of], is referred to.
