Abstract

537,779. Spray carburetters. MANGOLETSI G. A. Nov. 12, 1940, No. 27927/39. [Class 7 (iii)] An engine is provided with a manifold a which during normal running is supplied with air only past a spring-loaded valve c and a throttle valve b, and a manifold or tubes k, m, supplying a heated rich mixture to the air manifold immediately in advance of the inletvalve ports or the inlet ports on the cylinder block. The rich mixture is supplied from a carburetter o having a throttle valve p coupled with the air throttle b. As shown, the tubes k, m terminate in perforated cones n in the air manifold a. The carburetter valve p controls an air inlet and the outlet to a pipe j conveying the mixture to a tube i enclosed by a branch h<1> of the exhaust manifold and connected to the pipes k, m. The air inlet to the manifold a is provided with an apertured disc e, controlled by the valve c and by a hit-and-miss valve f which is adjusted by hand and locked by screws g. A starting and idling carburetter t supplies idling mixture by way of grooves 3, 4 in pistons w, z to the space d, the throttle b being partly open. At starting the piston w is pulled downwards manually and mixture is admitted by way of a passage 5, groove 3 and passage y to the induction pipe above the throttle. Conjoint control of the throttle b, needle p and piston z is effected from a manually actuated lever s through rods 7, r, the rod 7 being connected to the piston z through a spring 8 which allows lost motion after the piston z has been lowered to close the idling passage 2.
