Abstract
389,541. Linear -dimension gauges. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. and STOCKS, H. R., Connaught House, Aldwych, London. Sept. 23, 1931, No. 26540. [Class 106 (ii).] An optical comparator comprises an adjustable anvil 14, and a movable member 13 which forms one side of a parallelogram linkage the opposite side of which is attached to or formed by the frame 2 the two remaining sides comprising flexible members 11, 12. When an object is placed between the anvil 14 and member 13 the latter is moved and since it abuts against a pin 7 passing through a vertical spindle 6 carrying a mirror 5 tilts the latter. Light from a source 1 after reflection from mirrors 3, 4 passes to the mirror 5 and thence after reflection from a mirror 8 to a scale 9. Screens 17, 18 are fitted. In a modification the mirror 5 is carried by a leaf spring secured to the frame and the arrangement of the light source and mirrors in the casing is modified. A finger-operated lever may be provided for opening the gap between the anvil 14 and movable member 13 to facilitate the insertion of the object.
