Abstract

430,508. Camera lucidas. SOTHERN, J. M. S., 115, Falmouth Road, New Kent Road, London. Jan. 8, 1934, No. 707. [Class 97 (i)] Apparatus for copying drawings &c. comprises a reflector 2 and a transparent glass sheet 3 at an angle to the reflector, the members 2, 3 being enclosed in a casing 4 of substantially prismatic form having a viewing aperture 5 within the angle between the members 2, 3. The hypotenuse face of the casing supporting the sheet 3 is open and is directed towards the object to be copied. Part of the light from the object passes through the sheet 3 to the reflector 2 and is directed back to the sheet 3 by which it is partly reflected towards the aperture 5 so that a virtual image is seen on a drawing surface placed below the apparatus. A sheet 7 of light-absorbent material such as coloured or darkened glass may be provided between the aperture 5 and the drawing surface. A lens may be provided in the aperture. The apparatus is carried by a support at a convenient height above the drawing surface.
