Abstract
389,533. Magnetos. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., Crown' House, Aldwych, London, and GRIFFITHS, L., 78, Biggin Hall Crescent, Coventry. Sept. 19, 1'931, No. 26278. [Class 35.] A magneto has a rotary magnet 2 co-operating with a fixed armature on the core 4 of which are wound primary and secondary coils 7 in which ignition current is induced during a portion of each half wave, and a separate winding 8 which is arranged to be connected in series with the primary winding for a portion of the other half' wave for providing a current suitable for lighting purposes. The armature core is L-shaped and the extremities are forced into contact with pole shoes 3 by a wedging member 5 adapted when screw 6 is tightened to bear against a slotted tapered portion of the core. The extremities of the core are held by overtapping laminations on the pole shoes 3. The, contact breaker lever 9 carries, in addition to the usual contact 12 co-operating with a fixed adjustable contact 10 in the primary circuit, a second contact 13 which engages a contact 14 when contacts 12, 10 are separated and thereby the primary and separate windings are connected in series. The contact 14 is carried bv a phosphor-bronze spring 15 backed by a steel spring 16, both springs being anchored on a bracket 17 which can swing around a securing screw 18 to adjust the spacing of the contacts 13, 14. The bracket is bent up at 19 to form a stop limiting the movement of contact 14 and ensuring a predetermined pressure between 'contacts 13, 14 when in engagement.
