Abstract

388,712. Fluid - pressure brakes; vacuum - operated apparatus ; valves. SERVO-FREIN DEWANDRE SOC. ANON., 68, Quai de Rome, Liege, Belgium. Oct. 31, 1932, No. 30655. Convention date, Oct. 7. [Class 103 (i).] An automatic controlling device for the means, such as a valve 2, provided in the induction pipe of heavy oil engines for producing a vacuum required for working vacuum operated apparatus such as servo brakes and the like is provided comprising a vacuum reservoir 8 connected on the one hand to the induction pipe 1 through a non-return valve 7 and on the other hand directly by pipe 22 to the apparatus to be actuated and to a device 5 actuating the said valve 2 so as to close it when the vacuum in the reservoir 8 falls below a minimum predetermined value and to open it when the maximum predetermined value of the vacuum has been reached in the reservoir 8. Fig. 2 shows the device 5 with the valve 2 closed in the induction pipe 1 causing a vacuum to be created in the reservoir. When the vacuum has reached its required minimum the atmospheric pressure begins to move the diaphragm 11 to the right against a spring 15 of appropriate stress. The lever 13 pivoted at 14 is caused to swing over to the right until when the vacuum has reached its maximum the lever has moved to the position xx causing the spring 16 to open the valve 2 by a quick movement of the arm 19.
