Abstract
386,457. Controlling motor vehicles. RENAULT, L., 8, Avenue Emile Zola, Billancourt, Seine, France. Feb. 16, 1932, No. 4614. Convention date, April 17, 1931. [Class 79 (v).] In locomotives, tractors, and the like driven by internal-combustion engines, engagement of the main clutch is facilitated by automatic means controlling the fuel supply so as to ensure that the driving and driven elements of the clutch are always in synchronism, further means providing that the members of the variable-speed gear are necessarily in synchronism before they are brought into engagement. The engine 1 is connected by a clutch 2 to a changespeed gear 3 driving a shaft 4. The engine shaft and the driven clutch shaft 6 are connected by gears 10 .. 13, one comprising a friction coupling, to shafts 8, 9, Fig. 3, one screwed and the other splined to engage a rack 14 engaging a sector 15 controlling the fuel pump or carburetter 19 of the engine by a link 18. Except when the engine shaft and the shaft 6, and thus the shafts 8, 9, are running in synchronism, end movement of the rack 14 to control the engine speed and secure such synchronism is produced. For the synchronizing-means 14 &c. may be substituted differential gearing or centrifugal means. Hand control 20 for the fuel is provided.
