Abstract
384,499. Fuel-injection pumps. RENNERFELT, S. B., 2, Polhemsgatan, Stockholm. March 4, 1932, No. 6639. [Class 102 (i).] In a fuel-injection pump the plunger 2, Fig. 1, is of two diameters, the pressure chamber being beneath the shoulder thus formed. The shoulder controls the suction port 27 and the discharge port 5 and is formed with a helical edge 24 in order to permit variation in the time of closing of the port 5 and thus in the amount of fuel discharged. The plunger is raised by a cam 9 through tappets 10, 11 and the discharge stroke is effected by a spring 20. The plunger rests on the oil until the passage 5 is uncovered by a slide valve 4 operated by a crosshead on the tappet 11. The valve has a screwed engagement with the crosshead and is rotatable to vary the timing of injection. For this purpose the valve engages a slot in a spindle 17 rotatable by a lever 19. The plunger 2 is similarly rotatable by means of a spindle 16 and lever 18. In a pump for a six-cylinder engine three plungers 32, Fig. 2, each with a slide valve 34, are arranged in a circle in a cylinder block 33. The plungers are operated by a cam 39<1> and the valves by a cam 39‹. The tappets are arranged in a cage 61, which is adjustable by means of a lever 62 in order to vary the timing of injection. The plungers carry pinions 42 engaging internal teeth 43 in a cover 45, which is rotatable to vary amount of the discharge. The fuel enters by a passage 69 in a bolt 56 and passes through passages 59, 57 to an annular space 63. The discharge takes place through passages 35. Each valve 34 distributes the discharge to two points 36u, 36l.
