Abstract
384,474. Automatic couplings for railway &c. vehicles. KURTOSSY, L., 14, Bellevuestrasse, Berlin. Feb. 9, 1932, No. 3819. [Class 103 (v).] In automatic couplings comprising movable coupling hooks and locking members for the hooks, the coupling hooks and the levers which carry the locking members are pivoted on the same pivots. The heads 1, 1<1> are provided with coupling hooks 3, 3<1> pivoted at 2, 2<1> and having inclined faces 4. 4<1> such that unless locked in position the hooks uncouple under tractive force. The locking means comprise rollers 7, 7<1> carried by spring-pressed levers 8, 8<1> to engage the hooks 3, 3<1> as shown. Uncoupling is performed by means of the arms 9, 9<1>. In another form the links 11, 11<1> of the levers 6, 6<1>, Fig. 4, are provided with arms 16, 16<1> such that in operating one arm 9 to uncouple the other arm and lever is also operated. Figs. 8 and 9 show another form of automatic coupling in which the heads 21 are provided with inclined guiding surfaces 23, 30 to guide the noses 22 one behind the other and these noses are held in engagement by coupling hooks 25 pivoted at 24. Locking arms 26 and rollers 27 are also mounted on the pivots 24 and on coupling the rollers 27 ride along the surfaces of the opposing hooks 25 and rest against the surfaces 28 to lock the hooks. Uncoupling is performed by the hand-levers 36.
