476,769. Automatic couplings for vehicles. SCHARFENBERGKUPPLUNG AKT.-GES., and SCHARFENBERG, K. Aug. 4, 1936, No. 21442. [Class 103 (v)] In a railway vehicle coupling of the kind in which a drop-hook 2 pivoted about an horizontal pin 2a is locked in engagement with a surface on the opposed couplerhead by means of a bolt or wedge 3, the bolt carried by one head engages between a part of the opposite head and the drop-hook carried thereby so as to lock the latter. Preferably the locking is effected during the act of swinging into engagement carriers 4 for the contacts of electric circuits, these carriers being pivoted about vertical pins 3a and being operated by toggle mechanisms 6a, 6<1>b and 6<11>b asso. ciated with compressed-air actuated piston 5a. The bolt 3 is formed integrally with an arm 3b, which is also pivoted at 3a and has an extension 3c engaging an actuating lug 3d on the carrier 4. When the contact carriers 4 and coupling elements 2, 3 are in their operative position, the toggles 6a, 6<1>b and 4<4>b have passed their dead centres, and no uncoupling can occur by the carriers 4 swinging away from each other. Automatically actuated covers 9 pivoted at 9a are provided to mask the cable contacts in their uncoupled positions. Specification 452,244 is referred to.
