Abstract
419,590. Automatic couplings for railway &c. vehicles. SCHARFENBERGKUPPLUNG AKT.-GES., 25, Viktoriastrasse, Berlin. July 26, 1934, No. 21911. Convention date, April 23. [Class 103 (v).] In an automatic central buffer coupling for railway &c. vehicles of the kind in which a coupling-hook pivotally mounted on a rotary disc-hook engages with the disc-hook on the opposed vehicle, damage to the link owing to its projecting from the couplerhead in its non-coupled position is obviated by arranging that the link should be in a different or retracted position relative to that occupied when the vehicles are coupled. In the normal position, Fig. 3, the link b of each coupler is accommodated within the guiding cone n, and the rotary disc-hook a is maintained in the position corresponding by means of a sliding plate l engaging a shoulder g, Fig. 4, on a locking-bar f and retained by a spring k, the plate l being directly connected to a protruding pin i. When the couplers approach each other, the pins i are pressed backward by contact with the cones n, the shoulders g are released, and spring e within the heads are free to rotate the discs into the coupled position, Fig. 5. Guide-surfaces o, p are provided, the former being located in the cones n and the latter projecting from the faces of the couplers.
