Abstract

954,162. Railway vehicle Willison couplers. ENGLISH STEEL CORPORATION Ltd. March 15, 1963 [March 31, 1962], No. 12483/62. Heading B7T. A Willison coupler having a lock-set mechanism 16, 23, 24, Fig. 6, is provided with a gravity type lock 4, Fig. 4, urged from a release position to a locking position by a compression spring 10. The spring has one end accommodated in a socket 11, and its other end is slidably retained by a spigot 12 projecting from the head so that only small stressing of the spring occurs during normal coupling. In the lock-set position however the spring is stressed ready to return the lock immediately after uncoupling.
