Abstract
418,052. Automatic couplings for railway &c. vehicles. SCHARFENBERGKUPPLUNG AKT.-GES., 25, Viktoriastrasse, Berlin. Nov. 22, 1933, No. 32630. Convention date, Nov. 22, 1932. [Class 103 (v).] In an automatic rigid link coupling for railway &c. vehicles of the kind in which the coupling hooks b are locked by means of rollers c<11> at the ends of levers C swinging about the same pivots d as the hooks b, each of the levers is of double-arm construction, one arm c carrying the locking roller c<11> and the other arm c<1> having a circular cam face n over which the roller on the opposed lever can ride. Springs a adapted to maintain the rollers in locking engagement, Fig. 3, with the rear of the hooks b are connected to levers at points P, which are the centres of the curves n, the object of this arrangement being to keep the distance c<11>, P constant and thereby constrain the four points c<11>, c<11>, P, P to maintain a parallelogram during the action of effecting a coupling. When the coupler-heads are to be disconnected, one of the operating-handles m with which the levers C are equipped is pushed forwardly as shown in Fig. 4, and the opposed roller c<11> rides up the face of the cam n and lodges in a recess to the rear thereof, so preventing return of the lever to its original position. In this condition the hooks b are freed from the locking restraint of the rollers c<li>, and the couplings mutually disengage when any tractive effort is applied to separate the two vehicles coupled.
