23,975. Dixon, P. A. Dec. 1. Couplings, automatic.- Fig. 1 shows a side elevation, and Fig. 2 a plan. Each vehicle carries a hook a and a rule-jointed link d. When two vehicles come together, one of the links d runs up and drops into the opposite hook a, the other link d being already turned back out of action. The link is held in locked position by a second hook b, shown separately in Fig. 4, which is pivoted at c and is provided with a projection b<1> for uncoupling, the necessary uncoupling movement being effected by the action of the lever i on the projection b<2>. Each link d is connected by a rod f to a pivoted lever g, which is operated by the rod h when the link is required to be thrown forwards or backwards. In a modification, which is specially intended for use on passenger carriages, provision is made for taking up the slack after coupling has been effected.
