Abstract
7754. Smith, V. W. J. March 30. Couplings, automatic.-The coupling-link engages with a swivelling hook, which is released for uncoupling. The link D is held in the coupling position by fingers e on a spindle E. The opposite hook C hangs in the position shown by dotted lines. When the cars come together, the link strikes the hook and swivels it into the position shown in full lines, in which it is locked by another finger e<1> on the spindle E. To uncouple, the spindle E is turned so as to release the hook. The spindle may be turned by means of a lever on a cross-shaft operated by handles at the sides of the vehicle, or by a chain or rope.
