Abstract
2188. Sutherland, H. M. Jan. 27. Couplings, automatic, of the type in which a pivoted link slides up the forward inclined surface of a fixed hook into coupling position, and is lifted for uncoupling by operating a lever at the side of the vehicle. The rear upper surface a<1> of the hook a is inclined as shown, and extends into a socket p in the end of the vehicle, which receives the end of the link b when the buffers are compressed. The arms of the link b extend through slots w, Fig. 4, with thickened edges o in a plate n fixed to the end of the draw-bar. For uncoupling, the end of the link is lifted by a plate c carried by a lateral shaft f which is mounted below the buffers and is operated by a lever g at the side of the vehicle. The lever g is held in the ' on ' and ' off ' positions by a pin m, carried by a spring lever with a handle h, engaging holes in the side of the wagon.
