6340. Samuel, R. March 17. Couplings, automatic. -On each side of the longitudinal axis of the wagons is fitted a coupling comprising a male member b having a barbed head with a curved part behind the head which engages with similarly-curved pivoted spring-pressed levers c when the wagons meet. In uncoupling, the curved bar i is operated to actuate the toggle links h on the underside of the coupling-head and force the levers c apart. These levers may be locked in the open position when it is desired to make the automatic coupling inoperative.
