Abstract

383,752. Cathode-ray tubes ; copying-telegraphy. BRITISH THOMSONHOUSTON CO., Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London.-(Assignees of Sabbah, C. A. ; 1, Washington Avenue, and Gray, P. M. ; 19, Willett Street, both in Schenectady, New York, U.S.A.) Dec. 1, 1931, No. 33312. Convention date, Dec. 1, 1930. [Classes 39 (i) and 40 (iii).] Cathode-ray tubes for photographing pictures transmitted by radio or the wave forms of alternating currents or surge discharges, have an end wall 10, Fig. 1, providing transverse paths of high conductivity relatively to that in other directions and the photographic surface 16 is arranged outside the tube between the wall 10 and a flat auxiliary anode 13. The wall 10 may be composed of graphite crystals or of transverse insulated conductors 11, Fig. 3, and may be made by binding lacquered wires into a cable and cutting a transverse slice. The surface 16 is affected according to the position and intensity of the cathode ray due to a glow discharge which takes place in air between the wall 10 and the anode 13, and which may be invisible and of ultra-violet character. An apertured shield 8 is connected to the cathode 5. In radio reception of pictures, the anode 6 'and cathode 5 are connected to an amplifier 3 in the output circuit of the receiver 1 and the deflecting plates 17, 20 are controlled by a filter 22 to produce spiral movements of the cathode ray.
