Abstract

529,411. Television apparatus; cathode-ray tubes. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO., Ltd. May 30, 1939, No. 15965. Convention date, May 31, 1938. [Classes 39 (i) and 40 (iii)] In television transmitting apparatus utilizing a cathode-ray tube with a mosaic type of image receiving screen, the screen consists of elongated parallel bars 12, Fig. 2, of light sensitive conductors, mounted on a mica &c. insulating support 11 with a back of electrically conductive material 14. The screen is completed by a thick sheet of mica 15 with a conductive coating 16 in contact with the coating 14, and a clip member 18 which is in electrical contact with the coating 16 and is connected to the external circuit. As shown in Fig. 1, the screen is mounted in an envelope 1 with a spherical window 3 through which the image is projected on to the screen. As applied to the transmission of a film 21, the pictures are projected through a slit in a mask 26 and an optical system 4, 30, 31 by which the line image is expanded over the screen in a direction parallel to the photo-sensitive bars. The electron gun assembly of conventional type is mounted in an arm of the envelope and the cathode ray is caused to scan the screen along one line only, preferably near the bottom of the screen as shown at 13.
