Abstract

449,176. Television receivers. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO., Ltd., Electra House, Victoria Embankment, and YOUNG, A. J., 61, Galveston Road, Putney, both in London, and MYERS, L. M., Roseberry, Cornfield Road, Middlesbrough. Dec. 21, 1934, No. 36663. [Classes 39 (i) and 40 (iii)] A main beam of electrons is projected on the whole of an area 2 where a picture is to be reproduced, and the density of electrons in different parts of the beam is controlled by an interposed permeable electrode 3 which is scanned by a signal-controlled cathode ray to produce controlling - potentials on different elemental areas. The scanning-ray is modulated in intensity or in velocity and is projected from an electron gun 4b towards the openwork electrode 3. The main beam passes through the electrode to the fluorescent screen 2, and either the electrode or the screen acts as an anode. The screen may consist of particles of carbon which glow when heated by electronic bombardment. The electrode 3 consists of a perforated aluminium plate coated with insulating aluminium oxide, which is coated with conductive material cross-ruled to produce a mosaic of elemental conductive areas, Figs. 2 and 3 (not shown). A sufficient leakage path for the elemental condensers is obtained through the oxide. Alternatively, the electrode consists of conductive rings set in an insulating compound.
