Abstract
383,481. Lubricating engines. BIRKIGT, M., Rue du Capitaine Guynemer, Bois-Colombes, Seine, France. Jan. 28, 1932, No. 2615. Convention date, Nov. 12, 1931. [Classes 12 (ii) and 12 (iii).] In order to shield the oil collecting in the crank case c of an internal-combustion engine from the effects of air eddies produced by the movements of the cranks &c., the collecting space h is separated from the upper part of the casing by an apertured screen g or by a system of partitions, baffles, or louvres, a gauze strainer i being arranged below the screen, the apertures in which latter are much larger than the interstices of the strainer. Oil draining from elements located outside the crank case returns into the casing through conduits j which open between the screen g and the strainer i. Where separate chambers are provided for each crank, each chamber is provided with a screen, with a single collecting chamber and strainer beneath. Oil withdrawn from the space h by a pump f is delivered to a tank e, whence it is supplied to the engine parts by a pump d.
